“Sometimes we work hard with great enthusiasm, but soon run out of steam"; regarding this kind of “intermittent effort," I don’t see it as a flaw, but rather as a completely natural state for everyday people.
/ˈsʌmˌtaɪmz wi wɜːrk hɑːrd wɪð ɡreɪt ɪnˈθuːziˌæzəm, bʌt suːn rʌn aʊt əv stiːm; rɪˈɡɑːrdɪŋ ðɪs kaɪnd əv ˌɪntərˈmɪtənt ˈɛfərt, aɪ doʊnt siː ɪt æz ə flɔː, bʌt ˈræðər æz ə kəmˈpliːtli ˈnætʃrəl steɪt fər ˈɛvrideɪ ˈpiːpl/
Human beings are not machines; our energy and stamina naturally have ups and downs.
/ˈhjuːmən ˈbiːɪŋz ɑːr nɑːt məˈʃiːnz; ˈaʊər ˈɛnərdʒi ənd ˈstæmɪnə ˈnætʃrəli hæv ʌps ənd daʊnz/
Just like the rise and fall of the tide, it is only natural that we have good days and days when we lack drive; this is the true rhythm of life.
/dʒʌst laɪk ðə raɪz ənd fɔːl əv ðə taɪd, ɪt ɪz ˈoʊnli ˈnætʃrəl ðæt wi hæv ɡʊd deɪz ənd deɪz wɛn wi læk draɪv; ðɪs ɪz ðə truː ˈrɪðəm əv laɪf/
Trying to completely eliminate these fluctuations through “hard work" is unrealistic in itself.
/ˈtraɪɪŋ tuː kəmˈpliːtli ɪˈlɪmɪneɪt ðiːz ˌflʌktʃuˈeɪʃənz θruː hɑːrd wɜːrk ɪz ˌʌnrɪəˈlɪstɪk ɪn ɪtˈsɛlf/
In the past, I often blamed myself and felt anxious because I couldn’t maintain the same pace every single day.
/ɪn ðə pæst, aɪ ˈɔːfn bleɪmd maɪˈsɛlf ənd fɛlt ˈæŋkʃəs bɪˈkəz aɪ ˈkʊdnt meɪnˈteɪn ðə seɪm peɪs ˈɛvri ˈsɪŋɡl deɪ/
However, I later shifted my perspective.
/haʊˈɛvər, aɪ ˈleɪtər ˈʃɪftɪd maɪ pərˈspɛktɪv/
I believe the most crucial thing is to “gracefully accept yourself as you are when you are not at your best."
/aɪ bɪˈliːv ðə moʊst ˈkruːʃl θɪŋ ɪz tuː ˈɡreɪsfəli əkˈsɛpt jərˈsɛlf æz juː ɑːr wɛn juː ɑːr nɑːt æt jər bɛst/
It is completely fine to be off your game.
/ɪt ɪz kəmˈpliːtli faɪn tuː biː ɔːf jər ɡeɪm/
At times like that, never push yourself too hard; instead, lower the bar as much as possible: “You don’t need to spend much time, just try doing it for a little while."
/æt taɪmz laɪk ðæt, ˈnɛvər pʊʃ jərˈsɛlf tuː hɑːrd; ɪnˈstɛd, ˈloʊər ðə bɑːr æz mʌtʃ æz ˈpɑːsəbl: juː doʊnt niːd tuː spɛnd mʌtʃ taɪm, dʒʌst traɪ ˈduːɪŋ ɪt fər ə ˈlɪtl waɪl/
Rather than forcing yourself to study for hours, just open the book and read a single page; rather than pushing yourself to run far, just put on your running shoes and step outside for five minutes of fresh air.
/ˈræðər ðən ˈfɔːrsɪŋ jərˈsɛlf tuː ˈstʌdi fər ˈaʊərz, dʒʌst ˈoʊpən ðə bʊk ənd riːd ə ˈsɪŋɡl peɪdʒ; /ˈræðər ðən ˈpʊʃɪŋ jərˈsɛlf tuː rʌn fɑːr, dʒʌst pʊt ɑːn jər ˈrʌnɪŋ ʃuːz ənd stɛp ˌaʊtˈsaɪd fər faɪv ˈmɪnɪts əv frɛʃ ɛr/
That alone is more than enough.
/ðæt əˈloʊn ɪz mɔːr ðən ɪˈnʌf/
If you try and still find it exhausting, then take a decisive and full rest.
/ɪf juː traɪ ənd stɪl faɪnd ɪt ɪɡˈzɔːstɪŋ, ðɛn teɪk ə dɪˈsaɪsɪv ənd fʊl rɛst/
From this perspective, I feel that a “two-minute impromptu speech" is also an ideal length.
/frəm ðɪs pərˈspɛktɪv, aɪ fiːl ðæt ə tuː ˈmɪnɪt ɪmˈprɑːmptuː spiːtʃ ɪz ˈɔːlsoʊ ən aɪˈdiːəl lɛŋkθ/
We don’t need to sit stiffly, deliver a grand monologue, or bear heavy pressure; we only need to share our authentic thoughts naturally within these brief two minutes.
/wi doʊnt niːd tuː sɪt ˈstɪfli, dɪˈlɪvər ə ɡrænd ˈmɑːnəlɔːɡ, ɔːr bɛr ˈhɛvi ˈprɛʃər; wi ˈoʊnli niːd tuː ʃɛr ˈaʊər ɔːˈθɛntɪk θɔːts ˈnætʃrəli wɪˈðɪn ðiːz briːf tuː ˈmɪnɪts/
Isn’t this in itself a form of “short-term effort without straining ourselves"?
/ˈɪznt ðɪs ɪn ɪtˈsɛlf ə fɔːrm əv ʃɔːrt tɜːrm ˈɛfərt wɪˈðaʊt ˈstreɪnɪŋ aʊərˈsɛlvz/
Don’t fight against the ebbs and flows of life; learn to coexist with them instead.
/doʊnt faɪt əˈɡɛnst ði ɛbz ənd floʊz əv laɪf; lɜːrn tuː ˌkoʊɪɡˈzɪst wɪð ðɛm ɪnˈstɛd/
Step forward when you are in good form; when you are not, do just a tiny bit or simply take a good rest.
/stɛp ˈfɔːrwərd wɛn juː ɑːr ɪn ɡʊd fɔːrm; wɛn juː ɑːr nɑːt, duː dʒʌst ə ˈtaɪni bɪt ɔːr ˈsɪmpli teɪk ə ɡʊd rɛst/
Embrace who you truly are and move forward at an easy, unforced pace—that is the most natural way, and the one that will carry us the farthest.
